Recently I had some car trouble.

A warning light came on, and like most of us, I Googled it. I wanted to know if it was a small issue, a big one, if I could ignore it, or if I needed to act.

I even tried the DIY fixes I found. Hours later, nothing had changed.

So I called my mechanic. He fixed it in under two hours for $50 (and honestly, he undercharged).

If I’d gone straight to him, I could have saved the stress, the wasted time, and the uncertainty.

And that’s when it hit me: this is exactly what I see happening with perimenopause.

THE INFORMATION OVERLOAD PROBLEM

We’re swimming in information. Podcasts, blogs, Instagram reels, TikTok tips, Pinterest boards full of “perimenopause hacks.”

The information isn’t always bad. In fact, a lot of it is pretty solid. But the sheer volume is overwhelming.

When there’s too much coming at you from every direction:

  • You don’t know what’s relevant to your body
  • You feel paralysed and stuck in research mode
  • You start second-guessing your own intuition and your understanding of your body

And the more you consume, the more you end up outsourcing your deep knowledge and trust of your body, relying on strangers on the internet (or people selling generic solutions) to tell you what your body needs.

Of course the main problem here is: they don’t know you.

They don’t know your health history, your genetics, your stress levels and stressors, or what you’ve eaten, drunk, and done for the first part of your life leading up to this point.

PERIMENOPAUSE DOESN’T HAPPEN IN ISOLATION

Perimenopause is never just about fluctuating hormones.

I had a client who’d spent hundreds of dollars on supplements. Carefully following every new protocol she came across, hoping to get rid of her symptoms.

Her pantry was full of half finished supplement pots.

She was disappointed (and honestly, frustrated) that nothing worked.

The reason they didn’t work?

Those supplements weren’t targeted to the real drivers behind her symptoms.

Because perimenopause doesn’t happen in isolation. It’s influenced by:

  • Your health history
  • How your liver, gut, metabolism, and nervous system are functioning
  • The stress you’ve carried (and carry!) and how busy or over-scheduled you are

When we looked at the bigger picture, we found exactly what was fuelling her symptoms, and it wasn’t what the Instagram supplement protocols were targeting.

The constant push to “feed the algorithm” had me creating weekly podcasts, blogs, 20+ Pinterest pins, daily social posts… all while knowing most of it would reach 1–2% of followers and vanish in 24 hours.

It left me feeling burnt out.

And constant content? It doesn’t create better results for you.

In fact, it can do the opposite:

  • Overwhelm you with too much information
  • Paralyses you into inaction because you don’t know where to start
  • Chips away at your confidence in your ability to read and respond to your own body

Which is exactly why I’m changing how I show up.
